#SignEffectz has just wrapped up a few projects for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel revival. MATC Westown Green and Journal Commons now occupy the area that was formerly home to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on the Journal Square Block.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Revival
At #SignEffectz we use a careful hand when performing a job like this. We have to be careful in restoring a historical building and protecting its integrity. When mounting a sign on a historical building, we must follow certain criteria. This involves extensive coordination with the historical preservation committee and the city of Milwaukee to confirm the penetration points for installation.
MATC Westown Green
Westown Green stands as an amenity-rich, unit-style student apartment complex catering to approximately 200 students from colleges and universities throughout the Milwaukee area, particularly MATC. The building was developed under the ownership of J. Jeffers & Co. with operational management handled by Founders 3 Real Estate Services.
#SignEffectz and J. Jeffers & Co. have maintained a collaborative partnership across numerous ventures. In the case of “MATC Westown Green,” #SignEffectz took charge of producing and installing the prominent corner blade sign. The manufacturing process involved crafting a dual-faced aluminum sign cabinet with 8″ returns. The sign was mounted to the building’s corner utilizing 6×6 square tubing, mounting plates, and mechanical fasters designed for outdoor durability. The signage is externally illuminated with gooseneck lighting mounted to the top of the sign. Furthermore, #SignEffectz created the interior ADA-compliant signage in adherence to relevant codes.
The Journal Commons
Constructed in 1924 by the notable newspaper architect from Chicago, Frank D. Chase, the Journal Commons has been revitalized into 141 market-rate apartments nestled within Milwaukee’s Deer District. #SignEffectz created and installed a high-rise sign on top of the building, now leasing exterior banners, ADA signage, and vinyl labeling. This comprehensive turnkey package exemplifies how #SignEffectz can provide seamless, end-to-end solutions, showcasing the versatile capabilities we can offer.
Partnership by Design
Once more, #SignEffectz partnered again with developers J. Jeffers & Co. and MATC on this project. Derek Rose, the permit coordinator at J. Jeffers & Co. played a commendable role in guiding us through the intricacies of the historical preservation committee’s protocols. Our design department played a pivotal role in bringing the visions to life. Additionally, our good friend at J. Jeffers & Co., Trei Tatum, connected us with MATC to materialize this visionary, revival project.
